Kauai owes its
near-perfect climate to its location near the equator (about 22N Latitude
at 159W Longitude), the lack of influence by a continental landmass, the
absorption of the sun's energy by the ocean, the consistent length of
days, and prevailing trade winds. The average high temperature
during January is 78 degrees and the average high temperature during
August is 85 degrees. Humidity percentages are normally in the 60's
and low 70's. Kauai's weather is almost always pleasant. The
West Side is a little dryer and warmer, the North Shore is a little wetter
and cooler. Hurricanes do occur in Hawaii. The last one on
Kauai was Hurricane Iniki in 1992. The State of Hawaii has an
elaborate warning system against disasters including sirens atop poles to
warn of storms and tsunami.

MULTIPLE HOME EXEMPTIONS FOR SENIOR CITIZENS:
The Multiple Home Exemption was established to lighten the tax burden for
senior citizens who have limited incomes. Senior citizens who are 60
years or older by December 31st are eligible to apply for the following
tax year..
Age 60-69: 2x the basic home exemption.
(2 x $48,000 = $96,000)
Age 70+: 2.5x the basic home exemption.
(2.5 x $48,000 = $120,000)

and federal estate tax liability. tax is equal to the credit for
state death taxes allowed on the federal estate tax return. Where an
estate has no federal estate tax liability, then there is no state tax
liability.

All dogs, cats and other meat-eating animals must
spend time in animal quarantine when they enter Hawaii. This
quarantine is required to confirm that the animals do not have rabies.
Animals may spend their quarantine period on Kauai at the Kauai Hume
Society facility. You must make arrangements before arriving!
Your current veterinarian must prepare a pre-shipment health certificate
and youmust make appropriate arrangements for shipment, particularly if
you will not be accompanying the pet. Your pet will be required to
stay two days on Oahu before being sent to Kauai by plane at your expense.
Depending on the degree to which you prepare your pet with immunizations,
the pet will remain in quarantine for either 5 days or 120 days. If
you plan four months in advance and prearrange all the necessary
paperwork, you may qualify for a 5 day quarantine or you may qualify for a
"walk through," which allows your pet to leave the quarantine facility
with you. Quarantine charges vary.

BRIDGE - The Sunset Bridge Club of Princeville is
a sanctioned ACBL Club to conduct Duplicate Bridge games on Kauai.
Sanctioned games are played each Saturday at the Church of the Pacific in
Princeville at 1pm. Visitors are welcome. For partners or

KAUAI MUSEUM - 4428 Rice Street, Lihue.
